So, I just finished watching the 1974 Miss Universe (23rd edition) pageant held in my country, The Philippines. It is the first edition held in Asia & the 3rd edition held outside of Continental United States.
Listed below are my observations based on the youtube video that I found.
- There are a total of 65 entrants in this edition, the highest number of entrants since 1952 same with the year 1968.
- Most of the spectators are wearing the traditional barong for gentlemen and terno for the ladies.
- The newly built Folk Arts Theater may not have AC back then because they are fanning like there's no tomorrow. Funny tho.
- Mexico has the longest intro.
- "Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat, ang inyong lingkod si Guada Sanchez taga Maynila".
- "Forever and ever I will remember this day in Philippines" - Dominican Republic
- Finland is Miss Photogenic.
- Miss Guam is pretty.
- Suriname has a very weird intro.
- "Kaligayahan sa inyong lahat" (Happiness to all) - Miss USA
- We still have Yugoslavia as a country.
- Sabi ni Bob Barker.."Bayinahan Dance Company".
- Kumanta sila ng Pamulinawen in Terno costume.
- Pangkat Kawayan performed after the Evening gown competition.
- Carlos P. Romulo is a judge during the finals, he is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time of the pageant.
- Some of the prizes for the MU winner were, 10,000 USD, seiko watches, Thomas cook vouchers & Toyota Sedan.
- Telecasts by CBS.
