Going My Way (1944)

I am trying to watch all the Oscars Best Picture winners since 1929's Wings, but i had just started to make some sort of a review after i watched them. I have amassed a good number of movies and if i will watched just 1 movie each day it will take me still a good 19 years before i finish all of them.

Short film summary from IMDB :

Youthful Father Chuck O'Malley led a colorful life of sports, song, and romance before joining the Roman Catholic clergy, but his level gaze and twinkling eyes make it clear that he knows he made the right choice. After joining a parish, O'Malley's worldly knowledge helps him connect with a gang of kids looking for direction and handle the business details of the church-building fund, winning over his aging, conventional superior, Father Fitzgibbon.

My Rebyu

The title was first mentioned in a song he sang during Father Chuck's visit to Carol's apartment when she asked him to sing for them (with Ted Jr.) an unpublished song. I like this movie because it's not that heavy to watch and though the main characters are priests it not so over religious, it's not so pushy about faith. During the entire movie you will only see 1 instance where they celebrated a mass or something like that. Bing Crosby is so good at this that i liked him singing (he is an accomplished singer after all..). It's a family movie and a light hearted comedy at the same time. I also loved the performance of Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald), having been nominated both as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Oscars in 1944, he won the supporting actor but lost the best actor to co-star Bing Crosby. The songs i loved are Ave Maria, Silent Night and the Going My Way Song.

"If you are looking for something thoughtful, dramatic, or even controversial, go somewhere else. But if it's a light-hearted comedy you're after, then pull up a chair and check out "Going My Way". - review from one IMDB user
